Alimo Studio Notes #48 [ A Warm Week, a Full Sketchbook]
Brainstorming, daily painting, NYC weather, and building fun stuff
Hey friends, Happy Friday!
What a glorious week here in NYC. It started off with some wild 70-degree weather. People were out and about. Felt a bit feral tbh LOL. Every restaurant, bar, and park was filled with people throughout the day. Almost felt like everyone took the day off b/c the forecast showed cold temps come Wednesday. Of course, later half of the week was back to Winter and V cold. Nice teaser for Spring!
Each morning for me was setting that tone drawing in my sketchbook. I’ve been getting a lot of braindumping and ideas onto paper. I have a good sense of my concept now for the show and this upcoming week starts all that production. Super excited for that. I added in a few of the daily sketches below.
While I love my book, I will be moving away onto larger paper to share with you all. Sometimes I’m so excited with how free my book gets. Loose strokes, little thinking, and painting fast. This process has slowly moved to my monthly drops and expect more of these for the future. They’ve been super freeing and loving subtle improvements with each stroke.
Somehow the week was wide open from meetings. It was a good week to focus on myself and this future body of work. Majority was painting and conceptualizing, while the later half of the day I spent a few hours building out a new website for my fine art and general works I’ve done over the years.

Let’s dive into it!
Sketchbook 🎉
This week has been super productive in my sketchbook. Getting a lot of fun ideas to pull in those monotonous moments in between beach life. Instead of just focusing on surfing, I’m trying to think outside the box on what it means to live this life. For me, not everything is surfing, but the tiny moments leading up to them can be almost more important. This isn’t that endless search for surf, but more the moments before and after surfing. It’s been fascinating pulling that onion layer back and thinking what that means. More to come!
Website
Spent a few more hours on the new website this week. Been fun looking back at interviews, podcasts, and magazines I’ve been in over the years and trying to organize. Again, a slow process but cool to get things in one place.
Upcoming
Next week, I’ll be moving away from my sketchbook over to larger paper and canvas for the show. Super excited to take some of my sketches and brainstorming over to larger works for the Greenroom Festival show!
Have a wonderful week!
