Alimo Studio Notes #4 [Painting in the studio]
Painting in the studio, live-painting battle, + upcoming art show in the Hamptons
Hey friends, Happy Friday and Happy Spring!
Just wrapping up my morning sketches, drinking some coffee, and writing this thread for the day before I head into the studio. This week has been super productive and pretty fun. It’s actually been more hands-on and less computer than usual, which has been a nice change of pace.
Since last Friday, a lot of things happened. Right after I wrote this post, I headed over to my friend Efdot’s studio for a fun live paint battle. Think Secret Walls, but more low-key vibes with friends. There were about 40-50 people there cheering on our timed 60-minute battle. The two teams were: me and Efdot vs Oveck and Nishant. The plot twist was it had to be black and white using paint markers. All of which I never use haha.
The lights dimmed down, and all of a sudden we were painting like maniacs. This was the first time I’ve painted with Efdot. At first, we split things up top and bottom, then before you know it, we were bouncing around adding in fun characters. We ended up painting this comic-style view of the NYC subway system + cityscape up top. It’s crazy how fast we’re painting with such an ambitious idea. Rather than focusing on one character, it was this whole ecosystem. It def made me think about what we could do if we had a few days as this was a fun experiment to flush out ideas. While we didn’t win, man it was so fun! Check out the pieces from everyone. Huge shout out to Oveck and Nishant! Link here
That kickstarted the weekend and brought in Monday energized me to paint in the studio, handle meetings, and keep drawing.
Let’s dive into it!
What’s going on this week?
1.) I got some canvas into the studio and started to paint for one of my commissions. Mixing colors and getting a rough layout has been really fun. Looking forward to adding in characters and bringing this to life. I’ll be heading to the studio after this to get moving on that. Added a little WIP progress in the studio.
2.) Tickets are all booked for Switzerland! I’ll be heading out on April 10th for the Swatch Nine event. I cannot wait to be out there painting, snowboarding, and getting to know the Swatch team.
3.) I got invited to a group show in the Hamptons this weekend. It’s called Art Room. Incredible experience what they have been building. Art, music, vibes. Thank you Ryan for the invite! My piece ‘Montauk’ will be on view there. Looking forward to sharing that with the community there as the painting was inspired by that region.
4.) No surprise, but drawing each morning in my book. I have two pages left in my sketchbook to cap off Japan (for now). The last few entries have been more Tokyo-based rather than in the mountains. So fun looking back on my trip to see these little nuggets out in Japan.
Fun finds this week
A lot of folks ask me about my travel watercolor set. It’s something that’s in my pocket to draw with. My favorite tool tbh. $20 tool that literally rules.
Shoutouts & Community Love ❤️
Shoutout to Jeff Keenan, Alex Pashley, and Jason Remple. A fatal avalanche occurred in the mountains east of Kootenay Lake, British Columbia, tragically taking the life of Jeff Keenan, 44, along with two others—renowned photographer and longtime snowboarding industry luminary Alex Pashley, 45, and Jason Remple, 53, a widely respected patron of BC backcountry pursuits and the owner/lead guide of Kaslo-based Stellar Heli Skiing. Another member of the group, reported as a 40-year-old resident of Nelson, BC, survived with serious injuries and is currently in critical condition.
It’s painful to hear this type of news. Thinking of all the family members as this is a heavy hit for the snowboard community.
That’s it for the week. Thinking of all my friends in the snow industry ❤️

Whoooo show in the Hamptons and a Swatch event in Switzerland? I’m excited for you! Loving the Japan sketches, especially the 7/11 one 🥲
I’m sorry to hear about everyone affected by the avalanche. That’s so tragic!
